Green Business Models
The Fund for Green Business Development, the Danish Regions and the Regional Municipality of Bornholm have joined forces to implement an accelerator programme in the years 2013-2015 on green business model innovation.
The programme was intended to promote the development of new green business models by Danish businesses to generate growth and employment for the businesses and reduce their consumption of resources and environmental impact at the same time.
The programme has two phases
- Phase 1: In this phase, businesses can apply for support to develop an overall business plan describing the concept and future cash flows and presenting a detailed business case backed up by calculations for the green business model.
- Phase 2: In this phase, businesses can receive support for testing and executing the model in its activities.
The Fund for Green Business Development has supported 29 companies in the initial phase of the accelerator programme with up to DKK 250,000 per company to develop their overall business plan. The Danish Regions and the Regional Municipality have supported the 14 companies which participated in phase 2 with up to. DKK 1.000.000 per company. This regional support is linked to the business's geographical location.
Why this programme?
Examples show that companies, by relying on a green business model, can conquer new markets and customer segments as well as increasing their competitiveness.
New business models can work as a catalyst for innovation and they can also lead to significant environmental improvements, e.g. by changing the incentive structure in the market.
